God wants our hearts, and he wants to be our priority. What does this look like for busy moms who have a never-ending to-do list and days overflowing with activity? How are we supposed to fit in prayer time when we can barely fit in a shower?
Imperfect Prayer
God hears you and he answers you. God wants your prayers. God needs your prayers in order to activate His will on earth. Pray, seek His face, and live in His abundant blessing.
I am by no means a perfect pray-er. Far from it. I’m not a Bible scholar that can spout off verses and their location in the Bible, and I don’t pray all day every day in a prayer closet with my Bible on my lap.
I’m just an everyday mom with a love for my creator.
Do I pray? Absolutely. I pray short prayers. I pray fervent prayers. I pray prayers of worship and praise. I pray the Word. I speak the word back to God with the faith that it is truth. I stand in the gap for those who are in need. I cry out before Him. I laugh with the joy of the Lord filling my belly. I dance and worship with my kids.
I do what I can with what I’ve been given. It changes, it evolves, it grows. God created seasons, and we live in seasons.
Prior to kids, I prayed very differently than I do now. I had the luxury of time, and would spend an hour almost every day in my prayer room. I felt so connected to God, so in love. THAT was my time with him.
And then kids happened. An uninterrupted hour to myself without kids and laundry and all the things? Ha! I struggled with how to connect to God. How was I supposed to truly hear him and love on him and be filled with him if I didn’t have an hour to myself?
The solution: little bits throughout the day
Tell him “Good morning” as my toddler rolls me out of bed.
Sing to him while I make breakfast.
Bask in a moment of worship while doing dishes.
Read a few verses or (gasp!) a whole chapter while the kids play, then meditate on it the rest of the day.
Lift a “Lord, give me patience!” as my kids squabble over a toy or have a complete meltdown.
Pray over a scraped knee and thank Jesus for his healing.
Drive by an accident with 5 emergency vehicles and then pray with the kids for healing and provision and all their needs to be met in Jesus name.
Thank God for our food and time together as a family.
Make mention of extended family members while singing bedtime songs to my kids (“He’s got the whole world in his hands” is a favorite for this).
Ask for peace over the room as we settle into our bedtime routine.
End our day with gratitude and blessing and the word of God.
Like I said, little bits throughout the day.
God doesn’t need an hour. He wants our hearts. He wants to be our priority. Life with little kids looks different than life without them, and our time with God looks different too. Both are beautiful.
Let me pray with you
Lord, I thank you for every eye that reads this prayer. Thank you for the busy moms, the homemakers, those working full time jobs away from home and their kids, those who have no children, and those with a full quiver. I lift them up to you, Lord. I thank you that all their needs are met according to your riches in glory through Christ Jesus.
Father, give them guidance on how to pray, what to pray, when to pray. Show them what this season looks like for their prayer life. Show them how to best connect with you, and draw them near to you. Wrap them in your love today, Lord. Give them a new confidence, boldness, courage, love, favor, healing, and peace. Show them that they are enough, that you love them just the way they are. “I love you just the way you are!”
Praise you, Lord, for all that you are and all that you’ll always be. We love you!
In Jesus name we pray,
Amen
What season are you in? What does your prayer/God time look like?
